The Capital Area Power of We Consortium is pleased to announce that its current successful Capacity Building Program for Faith-Based and Community Organizations (FBCOs) has been funded anew by the federal government for 2008-2009.

Applications from FBCOs for specialized training, hands-on technical assistance, and approximately $285,000 in capacity building grants are now being accepted. Applications are due February 24, 2009 by 4:00 p.m.

All charitable non-governmental, nonprofit, faith-based and community organizations providing, or have the intent to provide, direct and/or indirect service to at-risk youth, re-entering prisoners and their children, and/or the homeless within the City of Lansing, Michigan are eligible to apply for the program, whether they have a 501(c)(3) status or not. This includes churches, neighborhood groups, social service agencies, or other nonprofit organizations.

The PWC will also be providing all eligible applicants whether they are selected to receive grants and technical assistance or not access to over $500 worth of training workshops, including grant writing, unique networking opportunities, free website development training and assistance in setting up a website.

Faith-based and community organizations (FBCOs) make tremendous contributions in our community. But as you know, they commonly run into barriers that keep them from having the impact they would like. The barriers may be lack of money, overextended leadership, obsolete technology, or something else, but if they overcame them, they could do more of the good work they do and do it better.

The Power of We Consortium has made a long-term commitment to building FBCOs' capacity - that is, to help them maximize their potential to strengthen and improve our community. Therefore, the Consortium has developed a capacity building program for FBCOs that includes specialized training, hands-on technical assistance, and approximately $285,000 in capacity building grants.

The Power of We Consortium is committed to providing ongoing capacity building support for our faith-based and community organizations through its Leadership and Practice Committee.
